Hailey SilvarMoone:
::Hailey sat at a small table in the Darkest Rose Tavern, patching a pair of pants like a commoner, Before her on the table, several parchments of paper were strewn out, as well as an empty plate and mug. The Queen looked up with a
smile as the barkeep approached her. He was a stout man, grizzled by the recent event of the kingdom, with dark chestnut brown hair.:: Needin' somethin more, Your Majesty? ::Hailey nodded.:: I could use some more tea, Geof. ::She
went back to her work as the barkeep made his way back to the bar.::
Xaio Feline
Xaio was sitting quietly at the bar. He wondered if Hailey would recognize him. He had changed quite a bit recently! No longer did he resemble a little boy - no, he was now about 5'10, with his only feline resemblences being his large ears, which were hidden beneath the hood of his cloak, and his tail, which was wrapped about his waist. But his large, golden-brown eyes, they were much the same as before. He looked up as the bar keep approached. He was thirsty, but he wasn't sure he wanted to try ale. He had seen what that did to men - made them smelly and stupid. "I had water, please?"
Arianda Trill
::Arianda had made a long journey, from the Village of Ru to Tariel City. She had come searching for answers to what had happened in Ru. SUrely the crown must know what had happened in her village. But, arriving in Tariel she discovered whatever had happened in Ru, had happened in Tariel too! She was disheartened, but tired and hungry, and found the Darkest Rose Tavern. Entering, she smiled. There were people here. That was a good sign! She walked to the bar, spotting the barkeep, she requested a glass of wine.::
Hailey
::As the barkeep prepared the tea, he nodded to the cloaked man.:: Aye, water I can do. You look a bit young to be drinkin' anyhow. ::No sooner had he set the water in front of , when the woman entered, asking for wine.:: T
erribly sorry, love. I'm all out o' wine for now. Perhaps some ale? ::He posed the question as he finished the tea.:: Give me just a moment to drop this tea off. ::He hurried back over to Hailey.:: Here you are, Majesty. ::And the
Geof made quick movements back to the bar. Hailey took the tea gratefully, returning to her work.::
Xaio
Xaio took the water, happily taking a large gulp, but not commenting on his age to the man. It wasn't really his business how old Xaio was anyhow! He eyed the woman who joined him at the bar. He was probably an odd sight. He was an open cloak, though the hood was drawn to conceal his large, feline ears. Beneath the cloak, he wore only a pair of long shorts, a faded blue color, and he was barefoot. Xaio had never gotten used to wearing any sort of shoe.
Arianda
::Arianda sighed. She would have loved a glass of wine. She watched as the barkeep took the tea over to <silvar>, calling her Majesty. Majesty? That wasn't the king Arianda remembered. Her curiosity got the better of her as she approached the table. She was wearing woolen pants, dyed brown, and a blue tunic - not the most flattering outfit for her slender body, but they were comfortable to travel in. Her red-gold hair was tied in a bun. She cleared her throat.:: Excuse me, are you the Queen?
Hailey
::Hailey looked up, her gray-green eyes examining the woman in front of her, but nodding. She put down the pants she was patching and stood up.:: I am Hailey SilvarMoone, the new Queen of Aaliron, elected by its survivors. And you
are? ::Hailey was wearing a thin dress, a faded shade of green with matching slippers. Her silvery-blonde hair was bound in a braid.::
Xaio
Xaio's ears perked up, as he listened to the conversation. Why was he spying on Hailey? She had always been so good to him! But, he worked for Darla now, and this is what she wanted. It wasn't such a bad price to pay to no longer be mistaken for a child .... was it?
Arianda
::Arianda curtsied clumsily. She had never done well with court manners.:: A pleasure to meet you, Your Highness. I am Arianda Trill, of the Village of Ru. I returned home recently to find the village abandoned, and ruined, so I came to Tariel, hoping to discover what happened. But it seems whatever happened in Tariel has happened here as well. ::She sighed hopelessly.:: Do you know what has happened?
Xaio
Xaio had noticed how delapitated everything else was too. He turned to watch Hailey, eager to know the truth also.
Hailey
::Hailey shook her head.:: I don't know what happened here. I sailed from Euthory to this place. YOu are however the first person from Ru to come here. ::She looked at one of the parchments, a map of the Kingdom, searching for the location of the village, finding it marked northwest of Tariel, in the Amerca Forest.:: You've come a long way, please sit down. ::Then she called to the barkeep.:: Geof, please bring Arianda some tea, and something to eat. She must
be starving. ::She noticed the fellow at the bar. His eyes. Those big golden-brown eyes. They looked so familiar.:: Do I know you? ::she asked him.::
Xaio
Xaio shook his head fiercely. This could be trouble - thankfully, his voice had changed along with his appearance, and was a bit deeper now. "No, I's no know you. Just a simple builder."
Arianda
::Arianda gladly took a seat at Hailey's table. Her feet were rather tired from the treck. She happily took the tea, and the stew the barkeep brought her, eating a bit before speaking again.:: Thank you, Your Majesty. You are most kind.
Hailey
::Hailey eyed the man at the bar again. There was something so familiar about the way he spoke.:: Thank you for your hard work. It will take all of us to rebuild. ::She turned back to Arianda, pleased the girl was eating.:: So, you were born in Aaliron? But, you don't know what happened either?
Xaio
Xaio turned back to the bar, a sigh of relief. She hadn't recognized him! That was lucky. He knew Hailey was powerful, but made Darla was more so. He took another gulp of his water, feeling guilty. He was spying on Hailey, and she was being thankful. Was this really what he should be doing?
Arianda
::Arianda sipped the tea, and then shook her head.:: No. When I left Aaliron, I was running from the Huntsmen. I had exposed myself using magic, to save the Princess, but that didn't seem to matter. So I fled the Kingdom. When I returned a week or so ago, it was like this. ::Her voice was sad.::
Hailey
::Hailey looked at her in surprise.:: Magic? Yes, I heard the previous King had outlawed magic in Aaliron. You needn't be afraid though. Under my rule, that law is suspended. ::She tried her best to comfort the traveler. She wanted to know more about the Huntsmen. Most of the citizens didn't seem keen on talking the events that led up to the war - that they could remember.::
Xaio
While Xaio considered his actions, he still listened carefully to the conversation between Hailey and the woman called Arianda. They could have been whispering, but his large ears caught everything. They did have their advantages.
Arianda
::Arianda changed the subject. She didn't much want to relive old memories much at the moment.:: What is your HIghness working on? Maybe I can help you learn the lay of the lands?
Hailey
::Hailey smiled understandly. She would have to learn about the HUntsmen another time. She pulled out a particular parchment, and laid it in front of Arianda.:: Well, now that the Tavern is done, most of the workers are building houses, but they seem eager to rebuild the palace. I truly don't see any reason to buil a palace though. I've always been uncomfortable in them. So, I am working on these - this will be the design of the Manor I want to build i
instead of a Palace.
Xaio
Xaio almost laughed. He remembered how much Hailey had hated living in the castle of Euthory. She could be a strange one at times, but he had found something Darla might find useful! Perhaps she would reward him.
Madeline Gettings (Darla Dauth)
A rather large carriage came rolling down the broken road of Tariel. It was a dark red, very nearly the hue of blood, with the framework painted black, and drawn by four large horses, a fifth horse with a mounted rider trailing behind. It stopped outside the Darkest Rose Tavern, the door opening, as a woman gracefully exited the carriage and walked inside the tavern. It was Darla, however, she was cloaked by an illusion of a pale woman with a large, blonde beehive-hairstyle, and a flowing pink dress done up with lace. As she came into the small tavern, she frowned as though it didn't meet her standards. "Who can tell me where the Gettings Estate is?" she demanded. (d)
Arianda
::Arianda took the proffered parchment, examing it, but careful not spill anything on it. She had no real comprehension of blueprints or building plans, but she nodded, looking very interested in them. She turned about with astart as the woman in the fancy dress entered the tavern asked about the Gettings Estate.::
Hailey
::Od Geof looked up at the new entrant.:: The Gettings Estate was up in the Northeast of the city, ma'am, but noone has seen any of the Gettings Family since the War. ::Hailey looked from Arianda to with a smile.:: Hello
there ::Hailey called out. She had heard of the Gettings Family, one of the noble families that had lived here in Tariel.:: Are you of the Gettings Family?
Xaio
Xaio looked up at the new woman in shock. That voice! She sounded like Darla, but she looked nothing like Darla. Could it be? He wasn't sure, but he remained quiet, observing for now, just to be safe.
Madeline
Darla frowned heavily at the woman who had spoken to her, as though she might be some peasant. "Of course, I am of the Gettings Family. I am Madeline Gettings, the youngest daughter of Fredrick Gettings." She snapped as though it should have been obvious. She nodded her thanks to the barkeep. "You're a good man." Spotting Xaio at the bar she walked over to him. "You there. Boy. It's been sometime since I've been here. Show me the way to the Gettings Estate." It was more of a command than the kind request of a stranger. (d)
Arianda
::Arianda watched the woman. She was rather rude to Hailey - the Queen! The Nobles of Aaliron had always thought rather highly of themselves though. She turned away in disgust, focusing again on her food.::
Hailey
::Geof growled unhappily.:: Listen 'ere, Miss Madeline Gettings - that there is Queen Hailey. You should be showin' her more respect than that. ::Hailey shook her head.:: It's fine, Geof, I'm sure she didn't know. ::She then turned
to Madeline.:: It's a pleasure to have you return to Tariel. Where have you been?
Xaio
Xaio now knew. This was certainly Darla. After all, she had changed her appearance before his eyes when they first met. And then she had changed him. Now she looked completely different. For the first time, he began wondering if he could really trust her.
Madeline
"Queen?" Darla said in disbelief. She looked at Hailey again, as though appraising her. Finally she shrugged. "It's a pleasure to meet you, I suppose. I've been away with a suitor, but he turned out to be insufficient." She turned back to Xaio. "Well? Are you ready, boy?"
Arianda
::Arianda just sipped her tea lightly. She did not like Madeline.::
Hailey
::Hailey wasn't fond of Madeline's attitude, but decided not to press it. It seemed everyone had been through a lot recently.:; Well, I am sorry to hear that, Lady Madeline. But we are happy to have you return. I hope you can find
your family.
Xaio
Xaio jumped at her tone. He scurried to the door, waiting for her. "Yes, Lady Madeline." He used the title he heard Hailey used. She had never been so mean to him.
Madeline
Darla huffed at Hailey's comment. "Yes well, thank you, Your Majesty." Her words were simply dripping with disdain. She couldn't believe this woman, sitting in a tavern, was the Queen. She should be rather easy to overthrow. She turned, leaving the Tavern, pulling Xaio with her. (d)
Arianda
::Arianda watched as they left, letting her breath out hen they finally did.:: She was rather rude.
Hailey
:Hailey laughed, hearing Arianda.:: That is the way of Nobles sometimes. But I'm sure she didn't mean any harm. She's lost her family and her home, and it seems her suitor. She'll come around, I'm sure.
Xaio
As Xaio was pulled out of the tavern, he dropped a black pouch, but did not notice. Hopefully it wasn't too important.
Arianda
::Arianda shrugged.:: I was never fond of the Nobles here in Tariel. They always believe they are entitled to more it seemed, just because of their family name. ::She noticed the black pouch fall, and went to pick it up. As she did, her world began changing. For a split second, she no longer was in the tavern, or in Tariel. She seemed rather to be inside a hut, and before her stood a child, with catlike ears, and paws, and a tail. And with him stood a woman, with short dark hair. Before she could focus on either, she was back in the tavern, unbalanced, and quickly falling. She immediately stood back up, embarassed.::
Hailey
Are you ok? ::Hailey asked, jumping from her seat and rushing to Arianda, Geof close behind her.:: What happened?
Arianda
::Arianda nodded, looking at the black pouch.:: I'm fine, I just had a vision. SOmetimes I lose my balance - it's been a very long time since I'd had one.
Hailey
::Hailey nodded.:: Here, get some rest. You can tell me what you saw later. Geof, take her upstairs. ::Geof nodded, leading Arianda to the upper level of the tavern.::
::Hailey sat at a small table in the Darkest Rose Tavern, patching a pair of pants like a commoner, Before her on the table, several parchments of paper were strewn out, as well as an empty plate and mug. The Queen looked up with a
